For math I attend Mrs.Pope's class, where me and my classmates learn new ways to solve math problems, and discover new units of math we have never seen before. One of the projects me and my classmates have created is the It's OK to be Negative project, where we had to create four real world problems involving negative numbers, represented in the forms of division, multiplication, addition, subtraction on a poster, written and solved. Down below are pictures of different parts of my poster.
It's OK to be Negative!
Our math class has also created a math project called the Garden Project. For the Garden Project me and my classmates were asked by a (fake) customer to design her garden. We were given information on the (required) features that the costumer desired for the garden design, as well as the required measurements. We learned how to use a scale, and we proved our knowledge of how to use a scale by saying what where the real life measurements of the space these features would taking. Along with the drawing of our garden plan we also had to explain our reasoning for the placement of the features. Below is an image of the garden plan I had created for the project.
A Day Out Project
In our Math class we were given a project called A Day Out, where we were given three options of where our (imaginary class) would go for their class field trip. We were given the price of the entrance fee for a person, the distance cost, and information of a school fund of $200. Each person worked with their partner to create a poster that showed their math process of finding the total cost of a class for each destination. Me and my partner concluded that the zoo was the best place to have the class field trip because it was the cheapest.
Go Math!
Throughout the year our class has used the Go Math book, which is full of math problems that me and my classmates work on every day. This book has also been excellent in finding great math problems and exercises to use to study.
